Perspective
Imagine a large-scale room, its walls painted completely white, or black, and the only sound playing is Vivaldi's Nisi Dominus (Psalm 126) RV608 IV. Cum dederit. If you can imagine that, just for a moment, then you may take a whirlwind journey through the selection of works featured thus, "without God, in vain" (Nisi Dominus Frustra), as the Vivaldi piece befittingly plays in a loop.

This selection encapsulates Dadoune's ability to share his most intimate worlds and identities through a close-knit set of visual signs—or signals, in the case of audio works—offering a single vocabulary of forms. These signs powerfully articulate known symbols, which Dadoune's idiosyncratic modi operandi, tools, and materials call upon us to contemplate, beyond the first sensory impression of the works. Through their physical, material, graphic, visual, and acoustic aspects, Dadoune uniquely conveys a personal journey, one that is powerful and significant enough to share with the viewer. While Nisi Dominus still plays in the background, the works attest to an intimate experience, an event, an exchange with the Creator.

Interspersed with signs, Dadoune's testimonial spans his memories and history, captured through various media and imprinted on the canvas or paper, at times in expressionist style, at others in a highly meticulous and calculated manner. He culls prevalent images from visual culture, alongside inscribed words and numbers, to underscore his message. Dadoune is determined to represent the self and its relationship with a divine entity as well as with the viewer; with the unconscious, with that which he attempts to forget, or tries not to say.
