Lidó Rico’s "De Rerum Naturae" is a profound exploration of the intrinsic relationship between humans and the natural world, inspired by Lucretius’s ancient philosophical treatise that advocates for understanding the universe through its physicality.
Rico’s work interrogates our collective perception of nature and challenges the anthropocentric worldview that has long defined human existence as separate from or superior to the natural order.
In “De Rerum Naturae” Lidó Rico explores the fragile boundary between the human and the non-human, the natural and the artificial, using casts of his own body and even human brains, he critically revisits Western humanism through a post-humanist lens. His sculptures—fragmented heads, brains with technological implants, distorted faces—become metaphors of a humanity trapped in a society of performance, marked by burnout, self-exploitation, and ecological alienation. Evoking Lucretius’s vision of perpetual transformation, the works confront viewers with the violence of relentless productivity while exposing the fracture between our biological roots and technological dependence. Rico invites us to rethink vulnerability, interconnectedness, and the urgent need for a new narrative that acknowledges our co-evolution with the natural world.
