Involuntarylism Michael Sole

Yeelen Gallery-Miami presents the first U.S. exhibition of the young British artist, Michael Sole b. 1985.

Interested in nature and the re-evaluation of its painterly tradition, Sole's work explores painting as a process using his surrounding environment as subject matter. The artist is striving to achieve a state he calls Involuntarylism, in which the built up knowledge in the artist's hand is permitted to come through in an instinctive approach to the application of the materials.
Involuntarylism is the act of allowing the paint and gravity to create the painting itself, while subject to the artist's "puppeteering" and manipulation of built up knowledge and past experience, allowing the paints characteristics to create organic patterns, atmosphere, and substantiation.

Since graduating with a BA in Fine Art from Wimbledon College of Art, Michael Sole has been awarded "Young Artist of the Year" by the Royal Society of Marine Artists in 2009 and 2010.
