Marcone Moreira (1982, Pio XII, MA) presents Vertebral, an installation with approximately 600 aluminum propellers from a vessel acquired from an Amazonian artisanal foundry, which preserves traditional techniques. The installation is part of the No Deck project, in which artists are invited to create site-specific works for the institution's external area. Arranged over 20 meters, the propellers with six distinct sizes mimic the movement of a snake and evoke aquatic flows and displacements.
Over 20 years, Moreira has researched nautical materials, incorporating wood and metals, in addition to exploring naval carpentry and founding. His work reflects an interest in the industrial transformations of matter, linked to his proximity to the Carajás Mine, located in the southwest of the state of Pará.
The artist has held solo exhibitions in important institutions, including the Paço Imperial (Rio de Janeiro), the Instituto Tomie Ohtake (São Paulo), and the Palácio das Artes (Belo Horizonte). He has participated in group exhibitions such as the Bienal das Amazônias (Belém) and "VAIVÉM" at the CCBB (São Paulo, Brasília, Rio de Janeiro, and Belo Horizonte). He has received awards from Funarte, Secult-PA, and Itaú Cultural, in addition to the Bolsa Pampulha. His works are part of public collections in museums such as the MAR (Museu de Arte do Rio), MAM-RJ, and museums in Belo Horizonte and Belém.
